Character archetypes

Character archetypes are used a lot in the movies these days a example of character archetype would be movies with heroes. A hero archetype is when a person with  great strength and courage willingness to risk his life. Movies like Batman, Spiderman, Ironman, and Superman are good examples of hero archetypes. In the movie The Dark Night Batman is once again risking his life to save the city of Gothm from his enemy The Joker. In the 2002 film Spiderman Peter Parker is visiting a lab when he gets bitten by a genetically engineered spider he later finds out the bite gave him super powers. He then uses the powers to fight and save the city of New York from the Green Goblin.

Mentor is another commonly used archetype in modern films these movies usually have a teacher or counselor guiding someone through a problem. Examples of mentor archetype are the movies Karate Kid and Lion King. One of my favorite movies with a mentor archetype would be Kill Bill Vol. 2 where The Bride also known as Beatrix seeks revenge on her dad for ruining and murdering everyone at her wedding.

Loyal Retainers is when somewhat like servants who are heroic themselves; help protect the hero and reflect the nobility of the hero. This archetype was used in the movie Lord of the Ring where Sam, Merry, and Pippin protect Frodo on their long journey to Mt. Doom. Later on in the movie Gollum also helps to protect Frodo and guide him to Mordor but he betrays him to keep the ring for himself.

The Initiate is when heroes and heroines who undergo training before their quest. This archetype was used in the movie 300 when someone was born they were inspected to see if they where fit for survival. When they where around the age of 7 they would begin there training to become one of the most elite fighting force the world has known
